East Grinstead Runners

East Grinstead Runners was established in 2018 with a simple but powerful aim: to offer local residents the opportunity to run through the beautiful countryside around East Grinstead with like minded people. From the outset, the club has focused on inclusivity. East Grinstead Runners welcomes runners of all abilities, creating a friendly and supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to take part, progress at their own pace, and enjoy running together.

A Growing and Supportive Running Club

Today, East Grinstead Runners has around 120 active members. The club organises three coached running sessions every week:

  • A harder training session on Tuesdays
  • An easy, inclusive run on Thursdays
  • A longer trail run at the weekend

All sessions are coordinated by qualified run leaders, and one of the club’s core principles is that nobody is ever left behind.

Encouraging New Runners: Couch to 5K

The annual Couch to 5K initiative encourages people who are new to running to give it a try. Many participants go on to become long term members and continue to build their confidence and fitness.

Club Events and Community Spirit

The club organises a couple of events each year, usually relaxed local trail races with no time pressure, focused on enjoyment and community.

Success Stories to Be Proud Of

A number of Couch to 5K graduates have progressed to complete marathons and ultra distance events, demonstrating the power of a supportive environment.

The East Grinstead 10K: Running with Purpose

The club now organises the East Grinstead 10K, established in memory of Andy Ripley. The race raises funds for East Grinstead Lions and their prostate cancer screening initiative.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Event

To reduce waste, the event uses fully recyclable water cups and sustainably sourced medals and trophies supplied by Sustainable Wooden Medals, reflecting the club’s respect for the local countryside.

Looking Ahead

East Grinstead Runners continues to grow with a strong community spirit and welcomes new members. The next East Grinstead 10K will take place on 4 October.
